3D printing materials add strong support! LPW to Produce Airbus Scalmalloy Aluminum Powder

British metal powder manufacturer LPW has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Airbus subsidiary AIRBUS APWORKS to incorporate the latter's developed aluminum-magnesium-bismuth alloy, Scalmalloy, into its own product range. In other words, they will soon produce powders of this alloy, adding another high-quality material to the 3D printing industry. Scalmalloy is the world's first aluminum alloy material specially developed for 3D printing. It has a high cooling rate and unique microstructure and can be stable at high temperatures, regardless of fatigue resistance, weldability, strength/weight ratio, It is also more ductile than ordinary aluminum alloys and is very suitable for aerospace, defense and transportation. This is exactly why LPW hopes to bring it into the 3D printing world. In fact, as early as 2015, Airbus used this new material to print a nacelle structure (pictured below) in 3D, successfully helping the A320 passenger plane to achieve weight reduction.

"Cooperating with metal powder experts such as LPW will help build Scalmalloy's supply chain and help us expand industrial applications of 3D printing technology," said Sven Lauxmann, chief sales officer of APWORKS.
