Calcia ceramics refers to ceramics containing calcium oxide as a main component.
Properties: Calcium oxide has a NaCl-type crystal structure with a density of 3.08~3.40g/cm and a melting point of 2570°C. It has thermodynamic stability and can be used at high temperature (2000°C). It has little reaction with high-active metal melt. Less pollution of oxygen or impurity elements. The product has good resistance to molten metal attack and resistance to molten calcium phosphate attack. It can be formed by dry pressing or by injection molding.
application:
1) It is excellent in metal corrosion resistance and is an important container for smelting non-ferrous metals such as high-purity platinum and uranium;
2) Calcium oxide brick stabilized by titanium dioxide, which can be used as a rotary kiln lining material for molten phosphate ore;
3) From the viewpoint of thermodynamic stability, CaO exceeds SiO2, MgO, Al2O3, and ZrO2, and is the highest among oxides. This property indicates that it can be used as a crucible for molten metals and alloys;
4) In the process of metal melting, CaO sampler and protection tube can be used, which are used in quality management or temperature control of active metal melt such as high titanium alloy;
5) The use of CaO ceramics in metallurgy is applicable not only to the above, but also to a thermal insulation sleeve for arc melting or a container for balancing experimental angles.
Calcium oxide has two disadvantages:
1 easily reacts with moisture or carbon dioxide in the air;
2 A melting reaction can occur with an oxide such as iron oxide at a high temperature. This slagization is the cause of the corrosion and low strength of ceramics. These disadvantages also make it difficult to widely use calcium oxide ceramics. CaO is still in its infancy as a ceramic. It has two sides, sometimes stable and sometimes unstable. In the future, through the advancement of raw materials, forming, firing and other technologies, we can better plan its use and make it truly join the ranks of ceramics.
