Today, we held a national superhard material conference in the garden-style city-Zhuhai. Everyone gathered to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the birth of synthetic diamonds in China, and expressed warm welcome to everyone.
Since December 6, 1963, the first synthetic diamond was born in the high-pressure laboratory of the General Machinery Research Institute of Beijing First Ministry of Machinery Industry, which only kicked off the prelude of synthetic diamond manufacturing technology. After 1964, the Zhengzhou Abrasives Grinding Research Institute and the Jinan Foundry and Forging Machinery Research Institute jointly developed the hinged six-face press and its subsequent large-scale, which laid a solid foundation for the development of China's superhard materials industry. After more than 40 years of ups and downs, it has not only become a major producing country with an annual output of more than 4 billion carats of synthetic diamonds, but also the level of high-grade diamond production technology has entered the world's advanced ranks.
However, the development of diamond products is lagging behind. It is gratifying that this phenomenon has attracted everyone's attention. Therefore, in recent years, diamond products and cemented carbide tools have developed rapidly, especially the development of mining in China in recent years, creating a good opportunity for the development of mining cemented carbide tools. The continuous innovation of mining cemented carbide technology, the increasing variety of products, especially the superhard material and hard alloy docking, has produced new varieties of high-tech content, such as: diamond drill bits, knives, drills, drills, high Wind pressure downhole drill, roller drill, ball bit and so on. This provides a new way to upgrade the cemented carbide products. At the same time, it also expands the application range for diamonds and promotes the development of marginal disciplines combining superhard materials and hard alloys in China.
Dean Lu Zhi of Guilin Institute of Mineral Geology made a report entitled "Technical Status of PCBN Materials in China", pointing out that its current technical status is: sustainable development, long-lasting, good prospects; serialization and refinement of foreign products; domestic product varieties Single, extensive; technical threshold is high, difficult; price difference is large, 3 to 5 times, the demand of the automotive industry is almost imported.
Through research, the uniformity of the domestic PCBN product organization is improved, and the cutting performance is close to that of foreign countries under low speed conditions.
There are problems: single variety, low CBN content, fine particle size 0.5μm; product film diameter is too small; product performance is unstable, the performance of PCBN is uneven, the performance of each part is inconsistent; PCBN surface has exuded metal phase.

Professor Wang Guangzu of Zhengzhou Abrasives Grinding Research Institute pointed out in the report that “promotion and application will be the bottleneck of sustainable development of nano-diamonds”, pointing out that in 1971, the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Physics first synthesized synthetic diamonds in China by explosion method. In 1975, the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the 701 Institute of Guangdong, the cubic boron nitride was synthesized by the explosion method; in 1993, the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences created the first large-scale explosive synthetic diamond plant in China, each kilogram of explosives. The diamond production is about 60 carats and the annual production capacity is 1 million carats.
In 1993, the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences used the negative carbon in negative oxygen balance explosives to develop nanodiamonds in China. Since 2000, nano-diamond production lines have been established in Lanzhou, Xi'an, Shandong, Henan, and Shenzhen. It is estimated that the annual production capacity of the country has exceeded 100 million carats.
The main applications of nanodiamonds are: ultra-precision polishing, for lubrication, for composite plating, for coatings, as stealth materials, for the electronics industry, as biomedical materials.
In recent years, more than three or forty units of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Yanshan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy have joined the development and application of nanodiamonds. It shows that a high-quality research and development team is basically formed. A lot of technological achievements have been made, but most of these results are still in the laboratory stage. How to turn phase results into productivity as soon as possible is a practical problem that needs to be solved urgently.
For the sustainable development of nano-diamond production, it is necessary to reduce intermediate links and accelerate the process of transforming scientific and technological achievements into productivity and commodities; a new scientific and technological achievement can only be transformed into products and open up the market to form commercial mass production and mass sales. Only to achieve ultimate success. In the future, research and development of applications should be placed at the top of the list. Solve the "bottleneck" problem of further development of nanodiamonds.
