17.0% is calculated based on the area including the peripheral portion of the module. If only the "lighting area", that is, the area of ​​the power generation area is calculated, the conversion efficiency can be increased to 17.5%.
This time, the modules were prototyped using commercial-oriented processes and materials at First Solar’s ​​R&D facility in Perrysburg, Ohio. In the future, we will use this research and development achievement to increase the module conversion efficiency of mass production products to approximately 15.8% in 2015. After that, we plan to increase it to 17.7 to 18.4% in 2016 and increase it to 18.1 to 18.9% in 2017.
In addition, on the laboratory-level small-area CdTe battery cell, First Solar announced on February 25, 2014 that it had achieved a global maximum unit conversion efficiency of 20.4%.
