As of mid-May, Jiangyin Port of Jiangsu Province imported 94 iron ore mines this year and weighed 1.711 million tons. The situation at the Jiangyin port is not a single case. According to statistics from the Jiangsu Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, from January to April this year, the Jiangsu port examined a total of 2289 batches of imported mineral products with a total value of US$ 8.60 billion, of which iron ore was the main source, and a batch of unqualified batches was 827. In the batch, the failure rate reached 36.13%, involving an amount of 2.207 billion USD. The inspection results showed that the majority of the 800 batches of imported minerals were unqualified because most of them were inconsistent with the contract requirements or excessive impurities.

Since most of the imported iron ore at the Jiangyin port come from small mines with low output and poor infrastructure, the quality of goods arriving in Hong Kong fluctuates greatly. According to statistics, the reasons for the unqualified iron ore mines detected by the Bureau since 2011 are mainly iron content lower than the contract minimum or rejection value; impurity content higher than the contract limit; moisture higher than the contracted maximum ; Particle size does not meet the contract requirements. The number of over-standard iron ore in water has increased significantly and reached 10 batches, involving a cargo weight of 192,000 tons.

It is understood that the gradual recovery of the global economy has stimulated the demand for mineral products, making the mineral products market more expensive, and some overseas illegal traders have collaborated with overseas illegal inspection agencies in order to seek high profits and issued inspection reports on the loading of ships that violated the facts. . In addition, due to the large domestic demand in our country and the lack of a stable source of mineral products, many domestic manufacturers are hunger-stricken and multi-sourced, making the mines and production areas of imported ore more complex. Taking Jiangyin as an example, only iron ore this year comes from India, Malaysia, Iran, North Korea and many other countries. The source is complex and the quality fluctuates greatly, making it difficult to ensure the quality of imported mineral products.

The inspection and quarantine authorities reminded importing companies to pay attention to avoiding the risk of imported minerals. When purchasing, they should try their best to select trade partners with good reputation and a certain scale. They should increase their own protection clauses in the contract, especially paying attention to the amount of advance payment should be appropriate. An internationally renowned and highly reputable inspection agency should be applied for the pre-shipment inspection of mineral products and the risk should be rejected outside the country.
