Atlantis Resources Inc. ("Atlantis") is the world's leading developer of tidal turbines for generating tidal currents. The company announced on August 16, 2010 that Invergordon in Scotland has launched the world's largest and most powerful High-power tidal power turbine AK1000, see Fig.
The tidal power turbine is installed at Orkney's European Marine Energy Centre ("EMEC") and is connected to the grid.
With a generating capacity of 1 MW and a water flow rate of 2.65 m/s, the AK1000 tidal turbine generates electricity to power more than 1,000 homes. It is designed to withstand harsh weather and marine environments. The tidal power turbine rotor has a diameter of 18 meters, a weight of 130 tons, and a height of 22.5 meters.
The installation and use of AK1000 tidal power turbines has become an important milestone in the use of ocean energy.
