ON Semiconductor has introduced a new Class D audio amplifier with an integrated charge pump to provide a cost-effective and space-saving speaker amplifier solution for cell phones, digital video recorders (DVRs) and portable speakers. The NCP2830 1 Watt Constant-Power Filterless Audio Amplifier Delivers Continuous, High-Quality Audio Output for 8.0 Ohm Bridge Load (BTL), Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) Low Even with Input Voltage Variation 1%. As a result, the device takes longer to operate and will not experience reduced volume or audio distortion when the battery is depleted. The NCP2830 uses a 20-pin QFN package measuring only 3mm × 3mm × 0.5mm and occupies minimal space on the board and can be used for applications where component height is limited. This integrated design reduces the need for external components and helps simplify and accelerate the implementation of reliable and complete audio amplifier solutions. The operating supply voltage of the NCP2830 is between 2.7 V and 5.5 V and provides a fast start-up time of 200 μs and excellent power supply ripple rejection (PSRR) of -88 dB. The total efficiency of up to 89%, and provide 100 dB signal to noise ratio (SNR) low noise performance. The optimized PWM output stage provides the NCP2830 with no filter capability, further reducing the number of external components required. Marie Capron, director of ON Semiconductor's Low-Voltage Power Management Business Unit, said: "The growth and diversification of the market for portable wireless products such as cell phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) is exciting."
