Weaving agricultural greenhouses with functional yarns can generate electricity in the rain

On the 3rd, the reporter learned from Zhejiang University that the team of Ping Jianfeng, a researcher in the School of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science, applied the friction nano-generator technology to agricultural textiles for the first time. After weaving into intelligent agricultural textiles, the Electron transfer and flow generate electricity to power smart agriculture. This research has been published in the international journal "Nano Energy".

Real-time monitoring of the parameters related to the growth of crops requires electric power to drive. Fields are often difficult to lay pipelines, and battery life is limited and pollution risks are more prominent. How to make full use of natural energy to power smart agriculture? This issue is of concern to scientists.

The southern region often suffers from heavy rains, causing losses to agricultural production. Agricultural textiles are the most common in greenhouse facilities. Can they be converted into generators that can shield rain and protect crops? After generating this idea, the research group quickly put into practice, and specially modified the yarn of agricultural textiles. The surface of the greenhouse was covered with two layers of special materials-conductive titanium carbide nanomaterials and non-conductive polydimethyl silicon Oxane.

Ping Jianfeng said that the transformed agricultural textiles not only realized the original agricultural protection materials and other functions, but also continuously obtained energy from the agricultural environment, providing a driving force for smart agriculture. Experimental data shows that under a continuous force of 9.5 Newtons, a 3 cm long yarn can generate a voltage of 7.7 volts.

"These two materials have good biocompatibility, and the entire preparation process is easy to scale and industrialize." Ping Jianfeng introduced that in the future, by connecting energy storage equipment, these modified agricultural textiles can not only be used for planting and animal husbandry The industry provides protection, and can also continuously supply electrical energy for the Internet of Things sensing devices, which is convenient for passive monitoring of agricultural information and real-time weather information.
