Tin selenide is an important IV-VI semiconductor. Its indirect bandgap is 0.90 eV and its direct band gap is 1.30 eV. It can absorb most of the solar spectrum; it is rich in content and environmentally friendly. And chemically stable semiconductor materials, tin selenide is a potential candidate for new solar cells, so the synthesis of nanomaterials has attracted people's attention. In this work, using the advantage of solution chemistry, a SnSe single crystal nanowire with a diameter of about 20 nm was grown for the first time using a seed induction method, and the length was adjustable from several hundred nanometers to several tens of micrometers. Spectral characterization showed that the tin selenide single crystal nanowires showed obvious quantum confinement effects: their indirect and direct band gaps reached 1.12 eV and 1.55 eV, respectively, which are very close to the vacancies of the solar cell materials Si and CdTe, respectively. The potential of materials in the development of new types of solar cells.
At the same time, the research team also collaborated with the researcher Liu Xingyuan of the Changchun Institute of Optoelectronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to assemble a hybrid solar cell based on P3HT and SnSe nanowires, and examined the photoelectric properties of tin single crystal nanowires.
At present, the preparation method has been applied for national invention patents, and the research results are published online in the form of communication in "German Applied Chemistry" (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., DOI: 10.1002/anie.201105614).
