Hybrid Epoxy Acrylic Waterborne Coatings

World Coatings is developing in the direction of low pollution and pollution-free, such as water-based, powdered, solvent-free, high solidification, and radiation curing. At present, these low-pollution, pollution-free coatings account for more than 70% of all coatings. Waterborne coatings are the main force for future coatings and currently account for more than 30% of the world's total coatings.

Resins that can be used as waterborne binders include alkyd, epoxy, acrylic, polyurethane, and polyester resins. The acrylic modified epoxy resin has the advantages of high modulus, high strength, chemical resistance, and good corrosion resistance of the epoxy resin, and also has the characteristics of gloss, fullness, and weather resistance of the acrylic resin. The paint prepared for the base material has excellent performance and is particularly suitable for water-based paints.

Epoxy acrylic water-based coatings require a coating with a certain crosslink density in a short period of time. The acid value of the resin system alone is not sufficient, and various types of acid catalysts become effective catalysts. There are not many acid catalysts used in paints, mainly including: phosphoric acid, phosphoric acid derivatives and sulfonic acid (dinonylnaphthalene disulfonic acid, dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid).

The acid catalyst has high catalytic efficiency in the curing of the epoxy acrylic acrylic paint, the coating film has good water resistance, acid and alkali resistance, flexibility, and high hardness. The amount of catalyst has a great influence on the properties of the coating film, and the suitable amount of catalyst can be used to obtain excellent coating film; and excessive addition can adversely affect the performance of the coating film and increase the cost.

Waterborne epoxy ester (WX5600) is a water-dispersible epoxy ester resin designed for waterborne self-drying paints and waterborne low-temperature paints. When using this product, it is necessary to add an aqueous driers to aid cross-linking. This product is outstanding in salt spray resistance, water resistance, weather resistance, and high gloss. It has good adhesion to various types of metal substrates, has good resistance to hydrolysis, and has good stability in water paints.
